(2025)Veronika Mayer is a composer of contemporary experimental music, ranging from instrumental to electroacoustic pieces and sound installations. She performs in the context of free improvisation as electronic musician with the laptop.
Her music is dedicated to the effect of minimal sound changes and demands openness for subtle details. Pure sounds, natural given phenomena and material are the basis of her work, following the characteristics and intrinsic behaviour of sound. An in-depth aspect is the thematisation of listening and the creative process itself.
Veronika Mayer is part of the curatorial team of the sound art festival Klangmanifeste in Vienna and is a member of the association snim – spontaneous network for improvised music.
In the Artistic Research Project AUDIO GHOSTS. Illusive perceptions – Perceptual illusions (FWF-PEEK) she researched on psychoacoustic illusions in installative sound art.
Veronika Mayer holds a permanent teaching position in the Computer Music and Sound Art programme at the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz, and in the Master’s programme Contemporary Arts Practice at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna.
She studied piano, instrumental and electroacoustic composition and ELAK at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna.
Numerous performances and composition commissions, including Musikprotokoll, Wien Modern, music unlimited, Neue Musik in St. Ruprecht, Ars Electronica, Madrid International Festival of Contemporary Music COMA, CoCArt Music Festival Torun, Ostrava Days Festival, among others.
